Bearded Blake Into 2nd Round in Madrid; Fish Out of Singles Draw; Venus Williams and Lepchenko Eliminated; Huber Advances Over M-Sands

James Blake rolled on to another clay court victory over Hanescu 6-2, 6-4. While closing out the match, unshaven Blake wore a face of quite determination and focus that could take him deeper in this draw. Next up for James is Ivo Karlovic who played three set match vs. Benneteau today.  The player with the better second serve may take the victory with the opportunity of Roger Federer awaiting them. Mardy Fish, Venus Williams and Varvara Lepchenko were eliminated from the singles draws today.

Williams went out 3-6, 6-3, 5-7 to Alisa Kleybanova as Williams was only able to win 47% of her first serve points allowing Kleybanova to break Williams three times in the set.

Mary Fish was few points from victory in the second set, but went down to Robredo 6-3, 6-7(5), 2-6. ATP Article on today’s Fish match

Lepchenko was defeated  by Wozniacki 3&1 as Lepchenko was only able to win 38% of her first serve points and 36% of her second serve points.

Men’s Doubles:

The powerful team of Mardy Fish and Juan Del Potro defeated Almagro/Ferrer 2&3.

Women’s Doubles:

Earlier in Stuttgart, Bethanie Mattek-Sands (w/Petrova) defeated countrywomen Liezel Huber (w/Black) 7-5, 4-6, 10-7, on Mattek-Sands path to the championship.  In Madrid today, Huber & Blake eliminated Mattek-Sands (w/Petrova) 3-6, 6-4, 10-4.
