Safina will take over the #1 ranking as Serena will not be adding the necessary ranking points she needed this week.

Brengle then lost in the final qualifying round to #1 seed, Masa Zec Peskiric 3-6, 0-6.  Brengle’s two victories secured $1,350 and 10 ranking points.  Mills leaves with $722 and 6 ranking points.

Brengle and Mills were the only Americans in the qualifying draw and Serena Williams will now be the sole American in Marbella, Spain.

Serena will play her first round match vs Klara Zakopalova on Wednesday at 5:30pm Marbella time:
