For Many American Men, Wimbledon Started Yesterday
Men’s Singles:
America’s ’second team’ took to the grass yesterday in an attempt to secure a berth in the coveted main draw of Wimbledon.
Scoville Jenkins was defeated in three sets by Roger-Vasselin 7-6(4), 3-6, 0-6
Todd Widom was also eliminated in straight sets by Bachinger 3&3
Michael Yani advanced over Mark Lopez 1 & 1 on Monday and then advanced to the final qualifying round today with a victory over Soeda 6-2, 7-6(5)
Brandon Evans advanced on Monday over Matosevic 4 & 2, but lost a roller coaster match today to Gregorc in a score that resembles an ATP doubles match, but this time the final set score is games, not points… 4-6, 6-0, 14-16
Donald Young was eliminated by Falla 4 & 4
Amer Delic lost to “Brit” Willis 6-7(7), 6-7(6)
Alex Bogomolov Jr. was also defeated in two tie-break sets by Tomic 6-7(5), 6-7(1)
Jessie Levin advanced in a tight third set victory over Groth 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-5 and then defeated Kindlmann for a spot in the final qualifying round 6-2, 6-3
Ryler DeHeart defeated Felder 2 & 3
Sam Warburg advanced over Ungur 7-6(4), 7-5
Rajeev Ram also advanced in a tight contest with Ouahab 6-4, 7-6(0)
Ryan Sweeting lost his tight match vs. Lacko 6-1, 3-6, 4-6
Taylor Dent defeated the #17 seed, Rochus, 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-4

Men’s Doubles:
Travis Rettenmaier (w/Santiago Gonzalez) dismissed the British team of Willis/Smethurst 7-5, 6-3
David Martin (w/Scherrer) also advanced 4-6, 6-3, 6-2
Martin and Rettenmaier meet in the 2nd and final qualifying round so only one of the Americans can advance to the main doubles draw.
Women’s Singles:
The Women have yet to take to the grass in their qualifying attempts.
Angela Haynes, Abigail Spears, Lilia Osterloh, Lindsay Lee-Waters, Madison Brengle, Varvara Lepchenko, Shenay Perry, Lauren Riley Albanese
Women’s Doubles:
